Feasibility assessment of proposed structural works
Depending on the proposed alterations and how complex the works are, a structural feasibility study may help at the outset in determining whether the proposed works are feasible. Structural feasibility assessments are beneficial at the start of any project where an architect or building surveyor’s design requires significant structural alterations within an existing building. This may be removing substantial internal load-bearing walls or columns and will therefore require assessment of the capability of existing structural walls to take there distributed structural loads from above.
An experienced engineer will produce a structural feasibility report that assesses the proposed works and the potential implication these works may have on the existing building structure. Architectural drawings will be assessed. The engineer will also visit the site to investigate the property structure in relation to the proposed works. Sometimes it is necessary to undertake further sub-soil investigation. Any previous alterations will also need to be considered during this process.
The feasibility report will detail any proposed modifications which may need to be considered prior to undertaking the works. We can explore various options in this regard.
Specific Structural Surveys
If you are concerned about the specific structural integrity of your property, we will be able to provide you with a Specific Defect Report. This report is designed to investigate specific problems within your property, such as subsidence, internal cracking, and previous structural alterations which have been undertaken.
